Javier Hectoro Delgado is Gloria Pritchett's charismatic ex-husband and Manny's biological father. After his divorce from Gloria, he has spent his life womanizing, much to Gloria's jealousy.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Javier's childhood. He was formerly a Triple-A Baseball player and played alongside such baseball greats as Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire.
Personality[]
Javier is said to be very adventurous and has many connections to important people because of his travels. Gloria says that because he is Colombian, he can be very persuasive ("Up All Night"). According to Gloria, Javier is passionate and romantic, traits which Manny inherited.
Jay complains that people think Javier is cool and exciting when he is actually a "dad who doesn't show up". In speaking of his responsibilities, Javier states that "life is an adventure" and that he lives "in the now", which annoys Jay, who is constantly the one to comfort Manny when his father flakes out.
Despite his behavior, Javier is very grateful to Gloria for how she raised their son. He voiced his appreciation for her during Manny's graduation, stating that their son wouldn't have become the man he is without her.
Relationships[]
Jay[]
Jay finds Javier pretentious and irresponsible because of his wild nature. In "Up All Night", they became close but Javier ended up letting Jay down.
Gloria[]
Javier was formerly married to Gloria before the show began. Their marriage to somehow seemed to be an imploding one as Gloria commented that all they did was "fight and make love". Gloria is also very appalled by Javier's actions, especially since he took Manny to a stripper club when he was six.
Despite any problems they have, Javier was grateful to Gloria for how their son turned out. At Manny's graduation, he thanked her for raising their son the way she did. Gloria was speechless and can only accept his gratitude in stride.
Manny[]
Javier has quite a good relationship with his son Manny. Manny looks up to him and they are shown to enjoy each other's company.
