Merle Stonewall Tucker is the husband of Barb Tucker and father of Cameron and Pam Tucker. He is also the grandfather of Lily, Calhoun and Rexford.
Season 3[]
The Last Walt[]
When he visited Mitch and Cam, they decided to invite Jay for dinner, as he and Merle never really bonded. Jay tried to avoid the dinner pretending to be sick, but Mitch forced him to come along and make an effort. At the same time, Cam was forced to tell his father to do the same with Jay, as he did not like him either.
Over dinner, the two men clashed, with Jay hating the fact that Merle treated Mitchell like the woman in the relationship. Jay and Merle eventually talked and realized that they both tried and treated their son's partner as the woman in a relationship because it made them feel better. They finally came together and agreed that they just had to accept the fact that their sons are gay and happy together.
Season 5[]
The Wedding (Part 1)[]
Jay took Merle to his club to enjoy a "Spa Day", showing the men had learned to get along. While at the club the two were met by a couple of other men in the sauna who asked questions about Cam and Mitch's wedding, not realizing that it was a gay marriage. After uncomfortably answering a few questions Jay and Merle quickly left after the men asked who was the father of the bride.
It was during the spa day that Jay told Merle, who was in a rough patch in his marriage to Barb, that divorcing Dede was the best thing he ever did. This led Merle to declare he was leaving Barb, naively thinking he would have met a new woman as attractive as Gloria, just as Jay did.
The Wedding (Part 2)[]
Jay and Gloria managed to set Merle and Barb back on track and they happily reunited. Merle walked Cam down the aisle, finally accepting him and Mitchell as a gay couple.
