Season 2[]

Intro sequence song[]

The series used an original song, called "Μοντέρνα Οικογένεια" (Moderna Oikogeneia/Modern Family), by the Greek band "BURGER PROJECT". In the first few episodes, the whole song was used as the opening/ending theme. A shortened, no-vocals version was later used for the intro sequence. The ending credits always featured the whole song with vocals.

End[]

The show ended after just two seasons, due to low ratings. There are a few differences from the original plot. Carmen (Gloria) gets pregnant, and so does Fay (Claire), ruining her 6-year plan. Danae (Haley) and Petros (Dylan) move in together, after she gets admitted into university (much to her parents' surprise). Lambros (Cam) and Dimitris (Mitchell) proceed with the adoption of their second child.

Differences[]

Pilot[]

  • In the Greek version of the show, there are some parts of the episode that change:
    • In the original version, Mitchell and Cameron adopt Lily from Vietnam, but in the Greek version, Dimitris (Mitchell) and Labros (Cameron) adopt Lily from London, United Kingdom, thus portraying her as a British girl rather than a Vietnamese girl.
    • In the original version, Brenda Feldman whom Manny is in love with is 16 years old. In the Greek version, her counterpart whom Diego (Manny) is in love with is 20 years old.
    • In the original version, Phil is dancing to High School Musical's "We're All in This Together" in front of his kids and they look completely uninterested and bored. In the Greek version, Philippos (Phil) dances to the song "Gangnam Style" and his children are actually amused and even laugh happily.
    • In the original version, Dylan is portrayed being 2 years older than Haley while Dylan's counterpart in the Greek version is called Petros and is a male who is 19 and a half years old and has repeated his third year of General Lyceum (this means High School), three times and is 3 years older than, Haley's counterpart in the Greek version, Danai.
    • Luke having a soccer game is replaced with Panos having karate lessons.
    • Claire plans for Luke to be shot at 16:15 while Faye plans for Panos to be shot at 16:20.
    • In the original version, Phil's BB Gun shootings take place outside in the backyard of the Dunphys' household. In the Greek version, they take place inside the house in Panos's (Luke) bedroom.
    • In the original version, Phil accidentally shoots Luke in the wrist, Dylan in the neck and himself in his crotch. In the Greek version, this is all different: Philippos (Phil) accidentally shoots Panos (Luke) in the hip, Petros (Dylan) in the crotch and himself on the top of his right leg.

The Incident[]

  • In the original version, Claire's ex-boyfriend whom DeDe mentions is called Ricky, while in the Greek version, Tasia (DeDe) mentions Faye's (Claire's) ex-boyfriend with the name Babis.
  • In the Greek version of the show, there are some parts of the episode that change:
    • While Alex is absent in the original version, in the Greek version Alexandra (Alex) makes a few appearances in the Greek adaptation of the episode, scenes stated below:
    • In the original version, Haley and Luke are seen together playing a hand-singing game on the couch and then start fighting. In the Greek adaptation, Panos (Luke) is actually replaced by Alexandra, but Panos still does appear in the Greek version. She and Danai (Haley) are seen looking at Danai's picture on her phone and then the fight begins with Alexandra apparently pulling Danai's hair and then Alexandra steals her sister's phone and runs off with Danai chasing after her. Alexandra is also seen during the dinner scene, unlike her counterpart in the original version. Thus, in the Greek version, the whole family is present at the dinner scene.
    • Takis (Jay) and Carmen's (Gloria) wedding flashbacks have some differences:
      • In the original version in the wedding flashbacks, there is no sign of Alex, but in the Greek version, Alexandra is seen at the wedding, but there seems to be no sign of Panos (Luke) and Diego (Manny).
      • DeDe gets dragged out by Phil, Cameron and Mitchell while Jay and Gloria remain in their seats glum, furious and quiet. In the Greek adaptation, Tasia (DeDe) is dragged out of the reception by only Philippos (Phil) and Dimitris (Mitchell), while Labros (Cameron) stays behind and tries to keep Carmen calm while Takis and Carmen are standing up and Takis tries to keep Carmen back and Carmen keeps shouting at Tasia things, like ¡Bruja!
      • In the Greek version, everyone was dancing to music and there was Greek music playing while in the wedding flashbacks of the original version, there was no music or dancing.

En Garde[]

  • In the Greek adaptation, there are some parts of the episode that change:
    • Fencing is replaced by tae-kwon-do.
    • In the original version, we see a picture of a young Claire and Mitchell, while in the Greek adaptation, this part is omitted.
    • Petros (Dylan) appears in the Greek version, despite not appearing in the original version.
    • In the original version, Manny's final opponent is a girl. In the Greek adaptation, Diego's (Manny) final opponent is a boy.
    • When Petros and the rest of the gang [except Philippos (Phil) and Panos (Luke)] see Faye (Claire) and Dimitris (Mitchell) ice-skating, they are amused and delighted, while the original version showed everyone looking confused.

Fizbo[]

  • In the Greek version of the show, there are some parts of the episode that change:
    • Fizbo is asexual:
    • "Fizbo" in Greek is "Melenios".
  • In the original version, we see that offscreen, Haley finds the scorpion in her room and gives a scared shriek. In the Greek version, this doesn't happen to Danai (Haley), thus the scorpion scare is omitted.

Trivia[]

  • Moderna Oikogeneia appears to be the only adaptation where the main characters and their descriptions are kept intact, except for Lambros (Cam) and Dimitris (Mitchell) adopting Lily from London, rather than from Vietnam.
  • It is mentioned that Dimitris (Mitchell) has U.K. citizenship, as he lived there for several years. This is probably why Lily was adopted from London.
  • There's a running joke in the series (especially in Season 1); most people mistakenly say "Chazopoulos" instead of "Chatzopoulos" when referring to Philippos (Phil). "Chazo" (χαζό) means dummy in Greek.
  • Lambros (Cam) and Dimitris (Mitchell) never kissed on camera. In the adaption of "The Kiss", their "kissing" is hidden by Takis (Jay), who turned to the camera while covering his eyes with his hand. Just a few scenes earlier, he had pointed out that if the couple kissed in front of the camera, they would get into trouble with the ΕΣΡ (Greek National Council for Radio and Television).
  • While her character is Colombian, Klelia Renesi is a Greek actress and only knew Italian. Her friend, Giorgos Kapoutzidis (famous Greek actor), helped her learn Spanish, as he is a fluent Spanish speaker himself.
  • Petros appears in various episodes that Dylan hadn't appeared in the original series.
  • In the the original version of "The Incident", DeDe mentions Claire's ex-boyfriend Ricky and later, in the original version of "Princess Party", another ex-boyfriend, Robbie Sullivan, enters the picture. But in the adaptations of these two episodes, Ricky and Robbie are both named Babis, indicating that Fay (Claire) had a single boyfriend.
  • In the Greek series, it is Lambros (Cam's counterpart) who has a beard. However, starting Episode 31, he's shaved.
  • In the Greek adaption, the duration of the episodes is longer (30 - 40 mins). As a result, some episodes contain the plot of two or more episodes from the original series.
  • There are several subplots that were implemented in the Greek series, but had never taken place in the original series, especially in Season 2.
  • Jungle Tanya's counterpart from "Fizbo" appears thrice, rather than once. She makes her second appearance in the adaptation of "Leap Day", where she is seen by Danae (Haley) in Petros' house. In her third appearance, she breaks up with him, knowing that he's still thinking about Danae.
  • In the adaptation of "Unplugged", Danae won the no-electronics contest, but she only got a toy car. Note that she didn't have a driver's license, as she wasn't 18 (minimum age for getting a driver's licence in Greece, at the time). That explains why there was no adaption of "Fears".
  • The character of Walt Kleezak was cut out. As a result, in the adaptation of "Lifetime Supply", it is Petros (Dylan) who plays video games with Panos (Luke), as he was trying to find a way to approach Danae again, after their breakup.
  • Petros mentions his father twice; in the adaptation of "The Incident", he says that the two of them almost never talk, and in "Lifetime Supply", he points out that his father is a doctor, specifically a vet. In the original series, Dylan's father has never been seen or mentioned in any way.
