Sarge & Pea[1] is the eleventh episode from Season 8 of Modern Family, it has aired on January 11, 2017.

Plot Summary[]

Cam is incensed that an anonymous and rude parent robbed him of a precious Lily moment during her recent dance recital. While he and Haley visit Alex at her coffee shop the next day, he thinks he recognizes the culprit and goes to extremes to uncover her identity, and give her a peace of his mind. Meanwhile, Jay, Claire and Mitch attend a family wedding and unexpectedly run into DeDe at the reception. Afraid their parents are going to once again make a scene, Mitch and Claire devise a plan to keep them apart. Finally, Phil and Gloria are on a college tour with Luke and Manny, and have very different ways of getting the boys ready to head out on this new adventure and also learning to let go.[2]

Episode Description[]

A parent at a school recital prevents Cam to see Lilly's turn. In revenge, Cam and his nieces decide to trap the parent by having Cam posing has her date while the real date seduces Haley. However, Cameron manages to expose the truth.

Claire, Jay and Mitchell go to a wedding where they meet Dede. Since she knows nobody, she sits at their table and both she and Jay surprise their kids by behaving nice to one another. Mitchell and Claire make them understand that if they had been kind to them and incited them to open their hearts and minds, they would have been different today. Jay and Dede admit that they should have been better parents, and apologize. Claire and Mitchell accept, and Jay and Dede go to dance together for old time's sake.

Manny, Gloria, Phil and Luke go to a college mixer, with Phil noting that it's a safety school for Manny while a long-short for Luke. Both boys have terrible days as Gloria can't stop to make pranks to Manny and Phil keeps heaping praise on Luke. The boys admit to each other that the only reason they applied to this college is because it's the only one they could both be admitted into. Phil and Gloria also talk, and Phil realises the more he tells Luke he can do anything the worse Luke feels when he fails, while Gloria admits she keeps trying to keep things fun so she doesn't have to face the sadness of Manny leaving home.
