Tad is one of Phil Dunphy's business partners in the new real estate company. He obviously likes Phil's wife, Claire, and blatantly shows it in front of him. But Phil is so excited to be in business with him, that he doesn't see it even though Claire tries to explain it to him. But when Tad invites Claire and Phil to his house for dinner, Phil realizes that Tad makes laugh Claire, what makes Phil become jealous and leaves the house.
