Episode Description[]

Manny and Luke have agreed to babysit Lily at the Dunphy's house as all the adults are going out for the night; Phil and Mitchell are going to see a movie, Claire and Gloria are going away for a spa weekend while Jay and Cameron are awkwardly going to a sports bar together to watch a boxing match. The boys are warned not to get up to anything as the adults leave.

At the spa, Claire and Gloria prepare to enjoy their weekend when suddenly Claire's phone alerts her that the smoke alarm was set off. She tries to phone Luke but can't get through, so phones Manny who tells her they were baking chocolate chip cookies and accidentally burnt them. Claire smells a rat, as the oven is broken, and despite Gloria's pleas heads home as she knows the boys are up to something.

At the movie theatre, Phil and Mitchell wait in the line when a guy comes along and offers to sell them a gummi bear laced with pot. Neither of the two have ever done pot, and are excited to have the chance to experience it reasoning if they were ever going to try it then it should be now. They buy the gummi bears and are told it'll take about 45 minutes to take effect after eating. They swallow the gummis, timing it so they'll take effect when they're watching the movie, only for Phil to get the smoke alarm warning. When he also can't get through to Luke, he and Mitchell decide to rush home to check and get back in time to enjoy their high without anyone noticing.

At the bar, Jay and Cameron are disappointed when the boxing match ends in seconds. However they end up enjoying themselves playing games for money against another couple of guys.

Arriving home, Claire and Gloria find nothing unusual. Everything is quiet, and Luke explains they were actually making chocolate chip pancakes which was what burnt and set off the alarm. Claire still suspects something, and she's right to suspect as Luke's bedroom is filled with hiding partygoers and Lily who was bribed with soda to keep quiet.

Phil and Mitchell arrive home and Claire decides to search the house. While checking the basement, the pot gummis kick in for Phil and Mitchell and they struggle to maintain their composure. When Phil comes across the partygoers, he and Mitchell decide not to expose Luke and Manny since it means they'll never get back to the movie theatre and Claire will realize they're high.

Reuniting in the living room, Claire is almost satisfied when Jay and Cameron arrive home with the guys they met in the bar. They begin a table tennis match in the yard which ends when a guy falls out of Luke's window. The party is exposed, and it isn't long before everyone realizes that Phil and Mitchell are stoned. Jay points out that everyone does crazy stuff like this when they're young, and now they're going to do what all good parents do and be total hypocrites. The parents then call Luke and Manny in to be punished. The episode ends with Lily being forced to run on a treadmill to try and wear her out from her sugar high.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • Alex and Joe are absent in this episode, though the former is mentioned by Claire. Haley only appears in one scene.
  • This is Haley's 150th episode.
  • Claire tells Lily that she will be the only girl if she comes with Mitch and Phil to the cinema. But as they wait, we see that many girls exit from the theater and some others are waiting too.
  • Claire mentions that Phil is so ticklish for massages, but in Heart Broken Phil suggests a couple's massage.
  • In this episode, Claire tells that she and Phil are the only parents who at least have one responsible kid. This is a huge mistake as Alex drank beer and even get drunk in A Hard Jay's Night and Spring Break. Also, Joe seems to have been forgotten in this episode.
  • This episode has no recurring characters.
  • Manny says the new girls are from Portugal, yet their accents are not even remotely close to a Portuguese person speaking English.
  • Mitchell and Phil get high together from eating pot gummy bears.
